2009 SCHEDULE - see where we've been
After a test flight in December 2008, Kansas City's Groove Pilots officially took off in January 2009. The band features a mix of rock, funk and blues covers along with a few original tunes.
As you can see from the full 2009 schedule, the calendar fills quickly (so quickly, in fact, that we haven't yet felt the need to record demo material). We like to think we put some fun in funky, and we try to be professional while not taking ourselves too seriously. We all have day jobs, although we do occasionally fantasize about being full-time musicians.
In the summer of 2009, vocalist Kajuan Gardner earned her musical pilot's license and became a full-time Groove Pilot. With her soulful style and strong stage presence, Kajuan can truly own the stage. For most gigs, Kajuan joins the founding rhythm section of bassist Dave "Candyman" Swiercinsky and drummer Tim Kelly along with multi-instrumentalist Dave "Boz" Bostwick.
More recently, in September 2009 guitarist/vocalist Terry Gann became a frequent flier with the Groove Pilots. In addition, KC bluesman Don Scheuchl often plays lead guitar with the band.
